Mį¹›ttikā: Fragrant Earth

(psstt: As seen on Food Network, Forbes etc.)

I have always loved hand-made pottery. From my grandma's tea mugs that she had found on her travels, to watching potters hand paint their wares in Jaipur at the Blue Pottery Workshop in Jaipur - I love it all.

As a cookbook author, I have long struggled to find suitable ways to present and celebrate the Indian cuisine. How does one tell a story that resonated beyond the preparation? To help with that, I have launched a hand-made line of pottery:

Mį¹›ttikā by Nandita: biophilic pottery for the modern table.

Having yearned for culturally respectful and modern mediums to showcase my creations, I recently began exploring clay. In the Spring of 2022, I launched
Mį¹›ttikā by Nandita.

Mį¹›ttikā means Fragrant Earth in Sanskrit.

Mį¹›ttikā by Nandita celebrates the earthy and granular quality of Indian cuisine through its colors, forms, and purpose. Mį¹›ttikā means ‘fragrant earth’ or Mother Earth in Sanskrit, and other Indian languages, including my mother tongue Gujarati & father tongue Marathi.

Through Mį¹›ttikā by Nandita each piece combines art with functionality. Each piece of hand-made pottery honors Indian food traditions and offers a place-based narrative, to anchor the preparation, a phrase better known as Biophilia.

All wheel thrown and hand-built pieces combine functionality with art and memorable narrative storytelling. They invite introspection around the environments from which regional cuisines emerge, the elements that shape the soul of a people.

All pieces are available for purchase. See note below.
